Social Work students collecting donations for unaccompanied youth

A group of Social Work students is reaching out to the campus community and beyond, seeking donations to help unaccompanied youth (those with no parent, no guardian and no home) in Brown County. Under the supervision of lecturer Mark Quam, the Social Policy students are collecting hygiene items, alarm clocks, fleece blankets, pillows, bottled water, and easily portable food items such as granola bars and Pop Tarts. They’ll also be accepting cash donations for more expensive items, including new duffel bags. The students are working with the Green Bay School District’s McKinney-Vento program, and student organizer Kate Bodart notes that there are 75 unaccompanied youth in that district alone. Donations will be accepted in the Social Work office (RH 320) and in the A/B intersection near MAC Hall B315 until Tuesday, April 15.
