UW-Green Bay Music presents Jazz I, II, Vocal Jazz ensembles in concert March 13
UW-Green Bay Music will present an evening of jazz Thursday, March 13, when the Jazz I, Vocal Jazz and Jazz II ensembles take the stage at the University Theatre in Theatre Hall on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m., and UW-Green Bay’s Jazz II Ensemble will be the first to perform. Under the direction of UW-Green Bay Associate Prof. Adam Gaines, the group will perform “Good Time Blues” by Mike Carubia, “Samba Kinda Way” by John LaBarbera, “A String of Pearls” by Jerry Gray and “Hip Hug Her” by Booker T and The MGs.
The Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform next, under the direction of Associate Prof. John Salerno. The group will begin with a medley by the well-known composer Burt Bacharach, which will be followed by a performance of “Happiness” by Michael McDonald and “Ooh Shoo be doo bee” by the renowned Dizzy Gillespie (both arrangements by Salerno). The Vocal Jazz Ensemble will conclude its performance with “Hallelujah I Love Him So,” arranged by Kerry Marsh.
The March 13 concert will conclude with the UW-Green Bay Jazz I Ensemble, also under Salerno’s direction. The group will perform songs from such varied artists as John Coltrane (“Blue Train”), Stevie Wonder (“You are The Sunshine of My Life”), June Carter Cash (“Ring of Fire”) and Chuck Loab (“The Mission”). The ensemble’s performance includes two arrangements by Salerno.
