UW-Green Bay gears up for fun, busy Color Run

The UW-Green Bay campus will get a little more colorful Sunday (Sept. 29) morning, when some 7,000 participants are expected to descend on campus for a bright and beautiful running event.

The Color Run 5K begins at 8 a.m., when participants clad head-to-toe in white will set out on a course that will blast them with color. At each kilometer, runners will be doused with brightly colored powder, with more color-blasting that awaits at the finish.

“UW-Green Bay is happy to host this fun and fitness-focused event,” said University Police Chief Tom Kujawa. “This is a terrific opportunity to showcase our campus and extend a warm welcome to individuals from our local community and beyond.”

Hundreds of volunteers will assist with the event, during which many campus roads will remain open to vehicles, Kujawa said. However, a stretch of Leon Bond Drive will be closed, and as parking lots fill there could be closures to Main Entrance Drive, Wood Hall Drive, Lab Sciences Drive and elsewhere. Participants are asked to arrive early and exercise patience, as officials expect heavy traffic during the morning hours.

Most parking lots will remain open until filled, with the exception of the Campus Court Visitor lot, the Wood Hall Lower lot and small sections of the Weidner Center, Baird and Kress Events Center lots. Free shuttle service will be available from the Lab Sciences, Baird and Kress Events Center lots, as well as parking areas by the soccer and baseball fields. As UW-Green Bay gears up for the event, students, faculty and staff are likely beginning to notice trailers and other set-up vehicles arriving on campus, Kujawa said. Run staff and others will begin arriving around 5 a.m. Sunday, and everything should be cleaned up and gone by noon.

“Sunday will be a busy but enjoyable day,” Kujawa said. “I’d like to thank everyone in advance for their participation in making this a safe, fun and community-friendly event.”
