Kagen-Gard congressional race
Negative ads? Prof says Kagen-Gard is worse than McCain-Obama
Incumbent Steve Kagen (D-Appleton) and challenger John Gard (R-Suamico) are turning up the heat. Television viewers in the Green Bay market are seeing more negative ads in the 8th Congressional District race than in the presidential campaigns, UW-Green Bay Prof. Tim Meyer told the Press-Gazette. “I would expect that it’s because there was no incumbent the last time Kagen went against Gard” and both sides were building a case for their qualifications to serve, Meyer was quoted. “Now Kagen, as the incumbent, has a two-year record and has a voting record, and so Gard can come after him for what he’s done.” See article.
Dean Furlong on Kagen-Gard
National politics may be a key in a race close to home between Congressman Steve Kagen and challenger John Gard . “What appears to be a national swing toward the Democrats probably is going to help Kagen,” Dean Scott Furlong told the Rhinelander Daily News recently. “I haven’t seen any major swings in the district to suggest there is real movement to get him out of the office. The fact he has not been a professional politician probably helped him two years ago and probably is not hurting him now.”
