Dick Bennett: Coaching is tougher, these days
Hall of Fame coach Dick Bennett, who led UW-Green Bay to three NCAA appearances and the Wisconsin Badgers to a Final Four, told a reporter last week that he’s not sure he’d want to be a college coach today. Although he didn’t directly address recent news regarding his former program, the retired Bennett indicated that changes in the recruiting process and the hard-to-define line between what is a motivational tactic and what constitutes player mistreatment would give him pause. “If I had an opportunity to come back, I’d have to say no, just leave me on the golf course,” Bennett said with a laugh, before a Fox Valley speaking engagement.
