‘Much Ado About Nothing’ has Common Theme elements, too
A LOG reader who happens to be a big fan of UW-Green Bay’s award-winning theatre program dropped us a nice note today. The note pointed out that the upcoming production “Much Ado About Nothing” has interesting ties to the campus Common Theme. Clearly, last fall’s drama “Balkan Women” was a hard-hitting, unflinching exploration of Yugoslavia’s civil war. And this week’s chamber opera (see item above) is based on the final days of America’s Civil War. “Much Ado” is a nice bookend, however, in that Shakespeare sets the action in a post-war “time of peace” and the conflicts are more comic than concerning. Something to consider as you take in the play, which opens a week from Friday.
