Wisconsin veteran to speak on experiences in Iraq

GREEN BAY — The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will host a discussion on the Iraq War with a Wisconsin soldier on Veteran’s Day, Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Staff Sgt. Joseph Streeter, a national guardsman from the Wisconsin 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry, will talk about the effects of his deployment to Iraq on himself, his family and his fellow soldiers.

The discussion will be held at 7 p.m. in the University Union Phoenix Room, 2420 Nicolet Drive. It is free and open to the public.

Streeter and two other Wisconsin guardsmen wrote of their experiences in the book, “Private Soldiers: A Year in Iraq with a Wisconsin National Guard Unit,” which was published by the Wisconsin State Historical Society Press.

The discussion, sponsored by the Friends of the Cofrin Library, is being held as part of the UW-Green Bay Common Theme, ‘Waging War, Waging Peace.’

The Common Theme is a yearlong program designed to engage the campus and community in the ideals of a liberal arts education and the UW-Green Bay interdisciplinary mission. It is designed to encourage faculty, staff, students, and community members to focus on a general theme from multiple perspectives and have a shared experience with open discussion and critical thinking.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.
