Opera Workshop will perform O’Grady’s ‘The Final Cause’
UW–Green Bay presents the locally created opera, “The Final Cause” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, April 16 and 17, at the Jean Weidner Theatre in the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts. Composed by UW-Green Bay Prof. Terence O’Grady, the opera will be directed by Prof. Sarah Meredith Livingston and conducted by Prof. Robert Glaubitz. The performance is split into two parts. The first half is a collection of art songs, musical theatre selections and monologues centered around the topics of war and peace. “The Final Cause,” the second half of the performance, is a chamber opera in one act (35 minutes long), composed specifically for the UW-Green Bay Opera Workshop class. The libretto concerns the final days of the Civil War after General Robert E. Lee has surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox. Read more.
