The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay honors outstanding, distinguished alumni
GREEN BAY — The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Alumni Association will honor five graduates for their accomplishments at the association’s annual awards night Saturday, April 25.
Receiving the Outstanding Recent Alumni Awards are Joel Hansen, a 2001 graduate in accounting and Business Administration and a supervisor with Schenck Business Solutions of Green Bay; and Justin Rebman, a 2006 Business Administration graduate and a financial representative and college unit director for Northwestern Mutual Financial Network in Green Bay.
The Outstanding Recent Alumni Award recognizes alumni within 10 years of graduation who are making important contributions to their communities and professions.
Receiving Distinguished Alumni Awards are Chris Stix, a 1976 graduate with a Personal Major (Environmental Values emphasis), retired Morgan Stanley analyst and board member of the Joslin Diabetes Center Board of Trustees in Boston; Barbara Polich, a 1972 graduate in Humanism and Cultural Change, and a commercial litigation and intellectual property lawyer in Salt Lake City; and Paula Fleurant, a class of 1975 Growth and Development undergraduate and 1986 Environmental Science and Policy master’s graduate, and a retired quality care manager at St. Mary’s Hospital in Green Bay.
Stix was an analyst covering the data networking, telecommunications equipment and internet infrastructure industries for Morgan Stanley and SG Cowen from 1995 to 2002. A “go-to” specialist in his field, an industry poll rated Stix the top-ranked analyst in data networking in 2001. Stix now is an active board member with the Joslin Diabetes Center — the world’s largest diabetes clinic, research center and provider of diabetes education.
Polich is a partner in the litigation department and a member of the Intellectual Property Group for Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll LLP, a national firm with an office in Salt Lake City. A winner of Utah lawyer-of-the-year honors, she is among the nation’s leaders in her field. Her specialty is patents, trade secrets and intellectual property.
Fleurant was a member of the UW-Green Bay Alumni Association Board of Directors from 1988 to 1995, serving in many leadership roles, including president from 1993-95. She was the quality care manager for St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center from 2001 until her retirement in 2007. She spent 13 years as coordinator of infection control at St. Vincent Hospital, and has served in a number of healthcare-related capacities since beginning her professional career as a nurse in 1966.
The Distinguished Alumni Awards recognized UW-Green Bay graduates who have distinguished themselves in their professional field and are widely recognized for their career accomplishments.
The Alumni Association Awards Night will be held on campus at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts, 2420 Nicolet Drive. The event begins with a social at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m. and the awards program to follow.
