Furlong: Convention speeches are candidates’ time to shine
Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean Scott Furlong was one of the experts who weighed in on the importance of political convention speeches for a story that aired Thursday (Aug. 30) on WLUK, Fox 11 News. Convention speeches like those given this week by GOP nominees Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan can have an impact, Furlong said, as can the totality of the event itself. “That’s why everyone gets so concerned about the setting of the convention,” Furlong said, “the fact that the hurricane came through and sort of potentially interrupted the flow of the convention.
