UW-Green Bay Outreach adds session for new Video Game Programming Camp

Students entering grades 8 through 12 in fall 2012 can register now for two sessions of the Introduction to Video Game Programming Camp at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, 2420 Nicolet Drive.

The camp offering, new this year, has proven so popular that organizers have shuffled schedules and added a second session. The first session will be held Sunday, July 15 through Wednesday, July 18. A second session will take place Sunday, July 29 through Wednesday, Aug. 1.

This new camp offering will immerse students in the world of object-oriented programming and offer an introduction to developing software in a gaming environment. Students will learn basic techniques for creating games and will be introduced to object-oriented programming. They will learn how to make objects interact with each other through events, and how to program some basic games.

UW-Green Bay Information and Computing Science lecturer James Hatlak is the camp director for this camp. He teaches Software Design I, Information and Computers in Society and Introduction to Computing and Internet at the University.

This camp is designed for students who love gaming and are interested in how video games are programmed, and for those interested in computer science or the video game industry. Each session is limited to 30 participants, so interested students are encouraged to register early.

Students can attend this camp as commuters or as residents living in UW-Green Bay student housing. The camp fee is $269 for commuters. Resident students will pay $469, which includes instruction, room and board, counselor supervision and transportation to evening activities.

Camp information and registration are available online at www.uwgbsummercamps.com. Information also is available by telephone at (920) 465-2775 or (800) 621-2313.
