Applications down about 5 percent here, and at Madison

As of Feb. 15, freshmen applications were down about 5 percent, Director of Admissions Pam Harvey-Jacobs told the Press-Gazette. Officials had received 3,175 new freshman applications for fall, versus 3,345 at the same time in 2008. “I would say it’s always somewhat of a concern when you have fewer (applications),” Harvey-Jacobs said. “We’re monitoring the numbers really carefully, and when our new freshmen start to sign up for their registration sessions, we’ll be watching those numbers really, really carefully.” A struggling economy and an increase in application cost are two possible culprits for the decrease.
