College-going rate on the rise, but still low, in Wisconsin

Former Chancellor Bruce Shepard was fond, although not proud, of citing the statistic that in Northeastern Wisconsin only about 19 percent of adults age 25 or older had college degrees. (The relatively low percentage helped argue the need for UW-Green Bay’s Growth Agenda targeting more state support for higher education.) Well, new data from the 2010 American Community Survey revises those numbers, upward, but both the Green Bay area and Wisconsin as a whole still trail national averages.  Green Bay has climbed from 19 to 22 percent, still well below the statewide figure of 26.3.  The national rate is 28.2 percent. There’s a lengthy Journal Sentinel story online.
