Lor reflects on study-abroad trip, Thai refugees

Prof. Pao Lor of Education led a January study-abroad trip to Thailand for UW-Green Bay students. “It was a culturally enriching three weeks, traveling and experiencing the different regions of Thailand, such as meeting different ethnic groups, being welcomed by five different schools and communities and seeing three different World Heritage sites,” Lor wrote in a column for the Appleton Post-Crescent. On the flight back, Lor noticed a group of refugees looking to start a new life in America. “It must be strange for them, looking outside and seeing the traffic and snow. They probably wondered, ‘What did we get ourselves into?’ I know, because that was how I felt when I first stepped foot in Long Beach, Calif., almost 30 years ago.” Go to the full column.
