Kersten’s Darrow book earns New York Times review

The New York Times, in its Sunday Book Review and posted online Friday (July 8), carries a review of two new biographies of American legal legend Clarence Darrow. One of the books reviewed was Clarence Darrow: An American Iconoclast by award-winning UW-Green Bay Prof. Andrew Kersten. The reviewer, an Ohio State historian, describes both works as “fine new biographies” but he also questions Kersten (mildly) for a tad too much emphasis on Darrow’s idealism and a tad too little emphasis (at least in the reviewer’s mind) on the degree to which the famous lawyer hired himself out as a mercenary for less lofty causes.
