Salerno, Gaines send greetings from Slovakia

UW-Green Bay music professors John Salerno and Adam Gaines had a long trip to their latest gig. On Wednesday night (Dec. 1), they played a concert in Zilina, Slovakia with the Slovak Sinfonietta. They were scheduled to perform again with the Sinfonietta on Thursday night in Bratislava for the Bratislava Music Festival, Slovakia’s most prestigious classical festival. They helped premiere two works for orchestra with jazz combo, one titled “Jazzphony” by Egon Krak, and the other, “Autumn Glitter,” by jazz guitarist Matus Jakabcic. The jazz group is made up of the Nothing But Swing Trio (Peter Solarik, drums; Robert Raga, bass; Klaudius Kovac, piano) plus Jakabcic on guitar, with Prof. Salerno on tenor and soprano saxophones, and Prof. Gaines on trumpet and flugelhorn. The UW-Green Bay faculty members will return from Europe this Saturday (Dec. 4).
