Scholarship events celebrate donors, students
A recent dinner and reception brought a number of UW-Green Bay’s friends and supporters to campus. The Chancellor’s Scholarship Dinner — an annual event and community fundraiser for the Chancellor’s Scholarship Fund — was held on the Weidner Center stage in early October. Two weeks later, the Chancellor’s Named Scholarship Reception, held in the Weidner’s Grand Foyer, was a chance for scholarship recipients and their families to recognize and show appreciation to their specific donors. Rick Chernick ’02, representing the UW-Green Bay Alumni Award Scholarship, spoke about the privilege of being a donor. Freshman Gary Flores, a recipient of a Phuture Phoenix Scholarship, expressed appreciation on behalf of the recipients. Among the donors meeting “their” students were Larry Weyers, Ginny and Jack Riopelle, Billie Kress and Janet and Charlie Lieb, donors to the first Phuture Phoenix scholarships. Marcia Mueller greeted a number of students benefiting from the gift of her late brother, Craig Mueller ’71; there are currently 31 receiving annual grants through Mueller’s generosity.
