UW-Green Bay to host faculty clarinet recital
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay music program will present a faculty recital, Friday, Oct. 15, featuring clarinet player Eric Hansen. He will be joined by pianist David Severtson in the fourth concert of the 2010-11season.
The free recital is open to the public and will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Fort Howard Hall of the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts.
The recital will feature pieces including: “Four Characteristic Pieces” by William Hurlstone, “Sonata for Clarinet and Piano Op. 167” by Camille Saint-Saëns, “Wings for Solo Clarinet” by Joan Tower, “Sonata for Clarinet and Piano” by Leonard Bernstein and “Hommage a C.M. von Weber” by Béla Kovács.
“These are some of my favorite works for clarinet and piano,” Hansen said. “I think the audience is in for a treat. Each piece is quite different from the next, and my hope is that everyone can find at least one piece they enjoy in this recital.”
Hansen is an assistant professor of music at UW-Green Bay. He teaches clarinet, music theory, woodwind techniques, woodwind ensemble, and directs the Phoenix Pep Band. He earned his master’s degree from the University of Kentucky and two bachelor’s degrees in music education and music performance from Arizona State University.
Severtson is an assistant professor coordinating the UW-Green Bay piano program. He teaches studio piano lessons, keyboard musicianship, first-year ear training and survey of western music. Before arriving at UW-Green Bay he taught at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn.
