Gurung wins $8,500 grant for ‘Lesson Study’
Prof. Regan Gurung, Human Development and psychology, has been awarded a 2008-09 UW System Undergraduate Teaching and Learning Grant.
The $8,500 grant will support work at UW-Green Bay on the College Lesson Study Project. “Lesson study” is a teaching improvement activity in which instructors jointly develop, teach, observe, analyze and revise lessons for their courses. Lesson study teams build knowledge about how students learn in their discipline, produce a lesson that can be used by others, and create manuscripts for possible publication, presentation, and inclusion in teaching portfolios. Designated the “Campus Lesson Study Leader for UW-Green Bay,” Gurung will be a resource for faculty in developing materials and promoting best practices at UW-Green Bay and, potentially, statewide and beyond.
UW-La Crosse Prof. Bill Cerbin, project director for the UW System initiative, praised Gurung as a leader in faculty development efforts and as someone already involved in lesson study groups through the freshmen seminar initiative at UW-Green Bay.
