It’s back! Radio GBX celebrates one-year anniversary of live, on-campus music streaming

A launch event is scheduled for Thursday, February 1, 2024 at the Green Bay Campus
Green Bay, WI — A radio revival is happening at UW-Green Bay, and campus is celebrating the live, student-run streaming radio station, aptly named Radio GBX. A “Free Launch” event celebrating the station’s first year of operation will be held on February 1, 2024 in and near the studio, in the TEAMS Lab.
“We wanted to honor the success of past UW-Green Bay radio stations, while creating a modern, independent alternative to commercial media for students,” said Prof. Bryan Carr, UW-Green Bay professor and faculty advisor for Radio GBX. “Plus, as a student-run station, interested students can practice performing on air and find their ‘radio voice,’ while learning the behind-the-mic details that are needed to have a successful broadcasting career. Our students are loving this opportunity.”
The ”Free Launch” event is open to students and the community. Details about the event are as follows:
- Thursday, February 1, 2024
- 4 – 5 p.m. (light refreshments will be served)
- TEAMS Lab in the Instructional Services building
Also included will be a short program and the opportunity for radio alumni to be interviewed on air by current students about what their experiences in college radio meant to their academic and professional careers.
Though Radio GBX is new, UW-Green Bay has a history of well-known radio stations. WGBW (91.5 FM) was a progressive, over-the-air student station on the UW-Green Bay campus with a 30-mile broadcast radius and a cult following from 1974 to 1989. A station streamed live on the internet in the mid-2000s through the early ‘10s, and the streaming station was relaunched in 2022.
