Teaching Press turns new leaf, publishing interactive nature journal
Submissions being sought for short, nature-themed literary pieces to be included in journal
UW-Green Bay’s Teaching Press, a student-managed printing and publishing house, has partnered with Cayla Cavey, President of the Scientific Illustration Student Organization, to publish an interactive nature journal to “highlight the natural beauty” of Wisconsin’s Toft Point State Natural Area.
Toft Point, a nature reserve in Wisconsin’s Door County filled with a diverse array of plants and animals, is owned by the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and the Wisconsin Chapter of The Nature Conservancy. The site is recognized by the National Park Service as a National Natural Landmark, was designated a State Natural Area in 1967, and was designated as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance.
For additional content, Teaching Press staff seek Wisconsin-inspired, nature-themed submissions from the public. The deadline for submissions is October 21, 2022. Submissions of fewer than 150 words can be sent to teachingpress@uwgb.edu.
Cavey, a graduate student in the UW-Green Bay Environmental Science and Policy master’s program, says the journal will be open to additions by the book owner to fill the pages with whatever they please. The journal will also feature illustrations by the Scientific Illustration student organization and information about the local species, as well as short, original, nature-themed literary pieces.
The idea is to “have a place to grow your thoughts, feelings, activities, observations, and relationship with the natural world,” according to Cavey.
The interactive Toft Point nature journal will be published in December by the students and interns of UW-Green Bay’s Teaching Press and available for sale through the Teaching Press website.
