UW-Green Bay staff invited to professional development sessions, July 29 & August 5
The Office of Academic Affairs invites UW-Green Bay staff members to participate in professional development sessions on Mental Health on College Campuses and Diversity and Mental Health. Both sessions will be facilitated by Psychology faculty member Kris Vespia. They are open to all staff and especially recommended for those who work in student-facing areas, such as Academic Advising, Athletics, GBOSS, MESA, Student Success, and more. You do not have to take the first training to participate in the second training. For planning purposes, we need advance registration by Friday, July 24. If interested, please register. The link to attend the trainings will be emailed to all registrants after July 24th.

Mental Health on College Campuses: What Do You Need to Know?
This 90-minute interactive presentation will review what we know about common stressors and mental health concerns among college students, as well as the role of our current context in those concerns. Participants will learn more about common signs and symptoms, referral sources and strategies, and some basic tips for effective communication with students in distress. Some of this same information will be applied to recognizing our own stress and identifying sources of support and self-care.
Wednesday, August 5 9-10:30 am
Diversity and Mental Health: Exploring the Role of Culture, Gender, and More
How does culture influence the symptoms, stigmas, and preferred treatments for mental health concerns? What role does gender play in help-seeking? What specific needs might certain groups, such as members of the LGBTQ+ community, refugees, and military veterans have? This 90-minute interactive professional development session will explore these questions and more. Participants will also learn about mental health resources available for members of specific groups.
