Update on campus closing, evening events
The Music program has announced the weather-related cancellation of the UW-Green Bay Concert Choir and Chamber Singers concert originally scheduled for tonight (Wednesday, Dec. 9) at the Weidner Center.
Student buses will run to Resch Center for tonight’s game
Intercollegiate Athletics has confirmed that, not only is the long-awaited Phoenix-Badgers men’s basketball game still on for tonight (7 p.m., Wednesday), so are the buses to take student fans across town to the Resch Center. As announced yesterday, the free buses will pick up and return students at the Residence Life Community Center. Students can start loading the buses at 6 p.m. (or a few minutes earlier, because of the weather) and the buses will run through the start of the game, or until the last group of students is picked up.
Kress Events Center will close early
The Kress Events Center will be closing at 5 p.m. today (Wednesday, Dec. 9) and will reopen for normal hours tomorrow at 6:30 a.m.
Note to students: library database services still available
Even though the physical building may be closed until Thursday morning, the many electronic resources the library offers are still available remotely. There are over 150 databases and over 65,000 e-journals available for students to continue their research.
Chancellor: Plan to re-open, with full schedule, Thursday a.m.
UW-Green Bay Chancellor Thomas Harden said Wednesday afternoon that the institution expects to re-open Thursday morning (Dec. 10) with a normal schedule and full array of services. Grounds crews are making progress in clearing the campus despite windy conditions and the approximately 14 inches of new snow. As always, however, with an institution of more than 6,000 students and 500 faculty and staff members, and with driving conditions varying greatly on a county-by-county and even road-by-road basis across UW-Green Bay’s service area, individual travel decisions ultimately rest with the individual. If an instructor is unable to hold class, on any day, the instructor is responsible for notifying his or her students, unit, Public Safety, and the Student Information Center at 465-2400. Wednesday a.m. posting: Campus is closed
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay announces that the University is closed and all classes are cancelled Wednesday (Dec. 9) . Public safety and campus grounds crew reported at 5:30 a.m. difficult travel conditions and the fact that only single traffic lanes and limited parking areas were clear. Gov. Jim Doyle issued a statewide executive order before 7 a.m. that directed state offices and all UW System campuses to close. Exceptions are made for essential public safety and emergency personnel.
10 a.m. Update: Some University services are open
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay reports that some campus services remain available today (Wednesday, Dec. 9) despite the winter storm and general campus closure. For the benefit of on-campus residents, the University Union notes that A’viands food service has managed to staff (on a skeleton-crew basis) several food outlets. Hours are expected to be as follows:
- Garden Cafe (until 1:30 p.m.)
- Phoenix Club (until 11 p.m., projected)
- The Corner Store and Marketplace (through dinner)
Wednesday night: Storm won’t keep Badgers, Phoenix from mixing it up
It has been seven years since the Green Bay men’s basketball team hosted the Wisconsin Badgers at the Resch Center, and it will take more than a blizzard to keep them apart. Officials say that, with both teams already in town, the 7 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 9) tipoff will take place on schedule.
Wednesday night: Show likely to go on for choral concert at Weidner
The UW-Green Bay Concert Choir and Chamber Singers are scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 9) in Fort Howard Hall at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts. Past practice has been that cancellations of such concerts are exceedingly rare, even with major snowstorms. We’ll share an update if things change.
