UW-Green Bay Theatre to present musical comedy ‘Gone Missing’ Nov. 15-17
UW-Green Bay Theatre will present the musical comedy Gone Missing Thursday, Nov. 15 through Saturday, Nov. 17, at the University Theatre in Theatre Hall on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.
A new musical comedy created by the acclaimed New York theatre group “The Civilians,” Gone Missing is a revue-style musical based on interviews with real people. This collection of very personal stories of things “gone missing” — everything from keys, personal identification and a Gucci pump to family heirlooms, your dog and your mind — creates a unique tapestry of the ways in which we deal with loss in our lives.
“As you watch and sort of see the play develop, you get a sense that they’re talking about a lot more than just the thing they lost,” said Associate Prof. John Mariano, the show’s director, “ — that it’s almost the memory that’s more important than the thing.”
The play’s music is varied and enjoyable, said Assistant Prof. and musical director Courtney Sherman. She, Mariano and choreographer Denise Carlson-Gardner have worked together closely on the show.
“Each of the songs is in a different style, most of which are contemporary pop styles of music,” Sherman said. “But, for instance, we have one that’s in the style of a Bossa Nova; we have one that’s in the style of a cabaret lounge singer type of song, and a number of others that represent lots of different styles of music.”
Gone Missing is thought-provoking, fun and a little strange, said student actress Natalie Vanden Heuvel. She predicts the show will have a wide appeal.
“It’s one that makes you think, but not one that makes you exhausted watching it,” she said. “It’s fun; you have fun watching it. The characters are so funny and exuberant.”
