Moody joins UW-Green Bay as director of alumni relations
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay has announced the appointment of Kari Moody as director of alumni relations.
She will begin her new duties Aug. 20.
Moody is a senior sales manager with the Hyatt on Main and KI Convention Center in downtown Green Bay, and is known to many in the community through that role and her extensive volunteer and leadership activities.
She serves as president of the group Management Women and as a board member, fundraising chair and president-elect for the Rotary Club of Green Bay. In January the Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce honored Moody with “Future 15” recognition as a rising young professional.
She is a 2000 graduate of UW-Green Bay with a bachelor’s degree in Communication Processes and interests in marketing, sales and internal communication.
Moody will report to Jeanne Stangel, the University’s director of development. She will also work closely with Assistant Chancellor for University Advancement Beverly Carmichael, who said the alumni relations position is critical in reaching out to 30,000 graduates worldwide.
“One of the things that stands out about Kari — besides her experience, and commitment to UW-Green Bay — is her contagious enthusiasm for her alma mater,” Carmichael said. “I am so pleased to welcome her to our staff, as I think she will be able to connect easily to alumni, to engage alumni with their alma mater, and to build a strong alumni program.”
Carmichael notes also that Moody joins the University at a time of significant transition.
“When this University graduated its first classes in the early 1970s, our alumni numbered in the hundreds, and we relied on the community for advocacy, advice and support,” Carmichael said. “Today, with a growing alumni base and grads filling senior leadership positions throughout this region and beyond, there’s a real opportunity to mobilize and harness that energy, and to engage more alumni in coming back, participating in University life, enjoying the Weidner Center and Phoenix Athletics, mentoring current students, and more. We’re excited about the possibilities.”
Moody, a graduate of Oconto High School and the former Kari Heier during her UW-Green Bay undergraduate days, served a term on the Alumni Association Board of Directors from 2002 to 2005. She has been an avid fan of Phoenix Athletics and an active volunteer for the association and University.
Professionally, Moody assumed her current position with Hotel Sierra in 2007. (The facility became part of the Hyatt family last fall.) She first joined the Green Bay hotel and convention complex in 2004, as marketing and promotions manager. Her previous experience in the hospitality and tourism industries includes sales director positions with Candlewood Suites of Appleton and Green Bay, and Sleep Inn & Suites of De Pere.
The director of alumni relations serves as primary liaison to the independent and non-profit UW-Green Bay Alumni Association, and is charged with planning and carrying out University alumni programs and events related to fundraising, career networking, educational programming, volunteer opportunities, social receptions, the Alumni Weekend and the annual awards program. The position also shares responsibility for managing alumni communication via social media, newsletters and the University print magazine.
