UW-Green Bay’s Center for Public Affairs and Division of Outreach and Adult access will present “Grant-Writing Strategies: A Skill Building Workshop” from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, May 22 in Phoenix Room A of the University Union on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive. Registrations are due no later than May 13.
The workshop will feature grant-writing expert Joe Gaunt, who has won millions of grant dollars for public broadcasting projects and educational, religious and health care ventures during the past two decades. Gaunt specializes in research to identify prospective funders, and in writing and editing grant applications, as well as teaching others to research and write grants through workshops such as this one. He was among the initial academic staff members appointed to help build the original UW-Green Bay campus, with an emphasis on bringing public television and radio to Northeastern Wisconsin.
The workshop will help attendees to discover funding to support current activities and advance new initiatives; navigate grant-seeking minefields and learn the winning ways of successful applicants; learn the pros and cons of Federal funding; and understand what application reviewers really look for, including advice on avoiding “fatal flaws” that doom many funding proposals. They also will learn the language of the field, the importance of building a relationship with the grant maker’s representative, and how to create a compelling grant application.
Workshop participants are encouraged to bring ideas, needs and draft proposals with them. By the end of the day, they’ll know how to best present ideas and needs, as well as where to look for the money they’re seeking. Resource materials will be displayed for perusal. Workshop participants can receive six Continuing Education Hours and a certificate of completion for their participation.
The cost of the workshop is $99 for the general public and $69 for UW-Green Bay staff and students. Registration includes materials, morning refreshments and lunch. Online registration and printable registration forms are available at www.uwgb.edu/cfpa.
