UW-Green Bay Theatre and Dance to present ‘Communicating Doors’
UW-Green Bay Theatre and Dance will present prolific playwright Alan Ayckbourn’s Communicating Doors April 25 and 26 and May 1-3 at the University Theatre in Theatre Hall on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive.
This time-traveling comic thriller features a London sex specialist who stumbles into a murder plot that sends her — compliments of a unique set of hotel doors — back in time. She and two women, who were murdered in the same room a decade earlier, race back and forth in time, trying to rewrite history and prevent their own violent ends.
“Ayckbourn’s plays are always really well structured — great stories, great characters; he writes wonderful dialogue,” said UW-Green Bay Associate Prof. John Mariano, who is directing the show. “When he was writing Communicating Doors, he said he was thinking of a mix of ‘Psycho’ and ‘Back to the Future.’ It’s kind of a murder-suspense story, in the Hitchcock vein — but it’s funny.”
UW-Green Bay student Stephanie Frank plays the time-traveling Poopay Dayseer. Communicating Doors is a production with a wide audience appeal, she said.
“It’s very exciting; there’s lots of twists and turns and you never really know what is going to happen,” Frank said. “But at the same time this show has a ton of heart. All the characters are so authentic and so real that I think that adds a lot to the story. And that’s a big part of why I enjoy it so much.”
Tickets for Communicating Doors are $18 in advance and $20 at the door for adults, $15 in advance and $17 at the door for students (with ID) and seniors, and $10 for UW-Green Bay students.
