Composer Frank Felice to be featured during next 360° Thursdays lecture-concert event

UW-Green Bay Music will present “The Sacred and Profane: The Eclectic Music of Frank Felice,” the next installment in its 360° Thursdays concert series, at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 26 in Fort Howard Hall at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts.

Felice, an eclectic composer with a postmodern mischievousness, will offer insights about his music, converse with the audience and conduct crowd participation activities during the lecture-concert event.

UW-Green Bay faculty members will perform several of Felice’s original compositions, including “Charismata” (2007), “Morning becomes …” (2009), “Basta!” (2006), and “Honk!” (2014).

Felice has performed extensively in the U.S. and has garnered additional performances worldwide. His commissions have included funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Omaha Symphony, the Indiana Arts Commission, the Music Teachers National Association and many more, as well as numerous private commissions and consortia. He has completed numerous residencies and mini-residencies, and in recent years has been in demand as an electric and upright bassist, playing in various rock, punk, progressive rock and big bands in the greater Indianapolis area.

Several UW-Green Bay faculty members will perform Felice’s works. They are Associate Prof. John Salerno (alto saxophone), ad-hoc instructor Michael Dewhirst (violincello), Prof. Cheryl Grosso (percussion), Associate Prof. Eric Hansen (clarinet), Associate Prof. Michelle McQuade Dewhirst (French horn) and Assistant Prof. Michael Rector (piano). Madison percussionist and UW-Green Bay alumnus Tim Patterson, D.M.A., a music instructor at Madison College, also will perform.

Now in its second season, the 360° Thursdays concert series features a diversity of performance styles designed to broaden attendees’ horizons and deepen their understanding of music. A component of UW-Green Bay’s 360° of Learning approach, the concert-lecture event helps students, faculty, staff and community members connect with music in more meaningful ways. Performances feature scintillating and provocative pre-concert discussions by a composer, performer or arranger. Attendees will consider a single aspect of music through multiple perspectives.

Each 360° Thursdays performance takes place at 6:30 p.m. in Fort Howard Hall at the Weidner Center on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive. Concerts are free but a $5 suggested donation is appreciated.
