There’s a great mini-profile of Mark King, UW-Green Bay Class of 1981, in the latest issue of Golf Inc. with the magazine’s annual list of the “Most Powerful People in Golf.” The CEO of TaylorMade-adidas recently picked a fight with the USGA’s equipment police for cracking down on new clubs including use of the so-called “belly putter” in sanctioned tournaments. The outspoken King says golf will wither and die if it clings too much to tradition at the expense of innovation, excitement… and fun. He says he’d like to see extra-large cups to make it easier to sink long putts, and the master marketer doesn’t care if everyday players take mulligans and gimmes all day long, if that helps them enjoy the game. Very interesting feature.
