Women's Leadership Networking Luncheon
Women from across the UW-Green Bay campus came together to talk leadership and giving back Wednesday (Oct. 3) during the Women’s Leadership Networking Luncheon.

Sponsored by the Office of Student Life, the noon event featured an overview of the 2012-13 campus Women’s Leadership programs, along with thought-provoking roundtable discussions and a keynote address focusing on the Women’s Fund of Greater Green Bay.

UW-Green Bay alumna and local attorney Julie Van Straten, current president of the Women’s Fund, offered an overview of its work and the power of philanthropy when it’s focused on women and girls.

Julie Van Straten, Women's Leadership Networking Luncheon“Our work as women really can just broadly influence a lot of areas of society,” Van Straten told the group. She went on to offer a description of the vision and history of the Women’s Fund, which carries the motto “Empowering women and inspiring girls.”

The Women’s Fund is looking to double its approximately $1 million endowment, about five percent of which is granted out each year for a variety of education-focused programs and initiatives, Van Straten said.

“Education is the No. 1 combat of poverty,” she added.

Luncheon attendees also learned about the variety of Women’s Leadership events and programs on campus, including book discussions, speakers, health events and more.
