Social Work grad Okokon has stories to tell in Boston

A distinguished 2005 graduate of UW-Green Bay’s Social Work program, Theresa Okokon, is working professionally in suburban Boston, managing a transitional youth group home for Justice Resource Institute in Roslindale. She’s also enjoying a great run in a competitive storytelling competition operated by a nonprofit arts entity called Massmouth, Inc. The competition is “Season V: The Big Mouth Off,” and Okokon has advanced from one of the semifinal story slams to make the finals on Thursday night, April 24, at the Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard St., Brookline. (Grand prize is a week at a medieval townhouse in Tuscany.) Modeled after poetry slams, Massmouth’s story slams invite storytellers—from experienced performers to first-timers—to share a real-life story in five minutes.
