Press-Gazette story offers local college debt snapshot

The Green Bay Press-Gazette on Monday (May 14) covered the hot topic of student loan debt from a local perspective, outlining the average debt of schools including UW-Green Bay and talking to officials about the trends. The paper reported that the 2010-11 average debt of UW-Green Bay students who borrowed was $23,000,while average debt of all students (including non-borrowers) was $17,000. That’s a bit less than the averages at St. Norbert College ($25,000 for students who borrow and $19,000 for all students), and more than the averages at NWTC ($12,400 and $6,600, respectively). The newspaper interviewed UW-Green Bay Financial Aid’s Sue Steeno, among others, to put the numbers in context. Full story.
