In the news: VandenAvond talks enrollment with WBAY

Associate Provost Steve VandenAvond provided some important context Friday (Oct. 3) for a TV news story on preliminary enrollment figures recently released by UW System. As we told you here last week, those numbers suggested several institutions, including UW-Green Bay, are trailing last year’s enrollment totals. In actuality, University officials predict headcount enrollments essentially will hold steady once all nontraditional, late-enrolling students are accounted for. “What you’re really comparing is enrollments from all of last fall, after all was said and done, to enrollments as of October 1, October 2,” VandenAvond told WBAY, Channel 2’s Ellery McCardle. “It’s not a fair comparison.” VandenAvond added that while traditional freshmen enrollment is down — a product of fewer high school graduates in the area — online offerings for adults have doubled in the last five years.
