Moyers site posts Kaye’s ‘dangerous idea’ on American exceptionalism

Posted at the Bill Moyers website this week is an essay by UW-Green Bay Professor of Democracy and Justice Studies Harvey J. Kaye. The piece is an edited version of the remarks Kaye shared in a “Dangerous Idea” segment on the National Public Radio program “To the Best of Our Knowledge.” Kaye says America is most exceptional when it pursues radical and progressive ideals. “We need to remember,” Kaye writes, “that American exceptionalism [as Thomas Paine, Walt Whitman, Herman Melville, Eugene Debs, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt and Martin Luther King saw it] is a challenge to enhance freedom, equality and democracy.” Read more.
