Sociologist Ray Hutchison, professor of Urban and Regional Studies, will be the speaker at 3 p.m. Friday (Feb. 21) at St. Norbert College as part of the school’s Social Science Research Forum. His presentation, “The Ghetto: Contemporary Global Issues and Controversies,” takes place in SNC’s Fort Howard Theater. Hutchison will talk about his work editing The Ghetto for Westview Press (2012), research into the decline of Chicago’s traditional Bronzeville neighborhood in South Chicago, and other nationwide examples of residents leaving what used to be culturally vibrant inner-city areas, often for suburbs.
