Faculty and Staff complete CATL’s First-Year Experience Community of Practice Program
In 2018-19, more than 20 Instructors and staff members participated in CATL’s First-year Experience Community of Practice. The Community of Practice collectively read Saundra Yancy McGuire’s Teach Students How to Learn: Strategies You Can Incorporate into Any Course to Improve Student Metacognition, Study Skills, and Motivation, which framed conversations on how to support student learning within the first-year. The book provoked lively debate about McGuire’s approach to student success and fostered a series of conversations about instructor experiences supporting first-year students as they make the transition to college. The following 13 people earned a “First-Year Experience” badge for completing all elements of the program. Congrats to all!
