UW-Green Bay mourns the loss of alumna, local German teacher

UW-Green Bay learned yesterday of the passing of Heidi Hussli, a 1997 graduate of UW-Green Bay. The announcement about her passing came from administrators at Bay Port High School, where she taught German:

“The purpose of this communication is to inform you of sad news involving one of our staff members. We are deeply saddened to share with you that this morning at 10:30 a.m. we were notified that Heidi Hussli, a teacher at Bay Port High School, passed away today following a brief hospitalization related to COVID-19.”

UW-Green Bay German Profs. David Coury and Jennifer Ham said that Hussli was more than a former student, but a colleague, mentor and friend to many.

“Heidi was a 1997 graduate of UW-Green Bay and a long-time and beloved German teacher at Bay Port. She was a German major who went on a Study Abroad trip with Jennifer and me and then as a teacher, took her students to Germany and hosted many German students here. We have and have had many students in our program who learned from her as well and greatly impacted by her enthusiasm and love of Germany and the German language.”

Like her peers at Bay Port, Coury said faculty and alumni are deeply saddened by the news.

Coury was quoted extensively about her in this Fox 11 story.
