Center for Biodiversity staff attended a dedication of the new Wequiock Creek Natural Area
On Monday, May 10, 2021, staff from UW-Green Bay’s Cofrin Center for Biodiversity attended a dedication of the new Wequiock Creek Natural Area. Stephanie Dodge, First Nations graduate assistant with Wisconsin Sea
Grant, made a tobacco offering together with other local First Nations members. Dodge will be working with UW-Madison intern Paige Skenandore and Sea Grant Water Quality and Coastal Communities Outreach Specialist Julia Noordyk to identify the plant species in the area. They also will identify the plant names in the HoChunk, Oneida, Menominee, and, Potawatomi languages. Despite some cold temps and drizzle at first, it was a great community event.
To get there, head north on Nicolet Drive from the Green Bay Campus, about three miles, to Circle Ridge Road. Turn right on Circle Ridge Rd, the road will dead end with a parking area on the left.
