Rosewall is author of ‘Arts Management: Uniting Arts and Audiences’
Rosewall says the book is one of only a few, if any, comprehensive textbooks on arts management written for undergraduates. Designed as a guide to the theory and practice of managing arts and cultural organizations, the 352-page volume includes information of interest to students and arts practitioners alike.
“It’s written in a way that, we hope, arts managers in the field will also find useful,” Rosewall says.
Arts Management includes case studies and critical-thinking exercises that address today’s environment for the visual and performing arts. Topics range from governance and human resources to program development, financial management, marketing, fundraising, educational outreach and more.
Rosewall, a member of the Art and Design faculty at UW-Green Bay, coordinates the University’s Arts Management program. She joined the program in 2001, when it consisted of a minor with six students. Now, there are nearly 100 students in the program, including 40 majors. Rosewall was promoted to full professor in 2012.
Widely recognized as a consultant, arts management specialist and arts advocate, Rosewall is currently vice president of the international service organization the Association of Arts Administration Educators, and a past president of the Wisconsin Public Radio Association and Arts Wisconsin.
She has served on several local boards of directors, including the Northeastern Wisconsin Arts Council, Film Green Bay and the ARTgarage. She served as the first director of marketing and development for the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts, and also managed the capital campaign to build the Green Bay Botanical Garden. She began her career as a musician, taught music at MacPhail Center for the Arts in Minneapolis and had an active career as a freelance singer, actor and pianist in the Twin Cities before entering arts management full time in 1989.
A book signing and reception is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the ARTgarage, 1400 Cedar St., Green Bay. Arts Management: Uniting Arts and Audiences in the 21st Century is available for purchase on Amazon or directly from Oxford University Press.
