UW-Green Bay recognizes Outstanding Alumni at the 2023 Alumni Awards dinner
On Thursday, April 20, 2023, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay recognized a number of outstanding alumni and one honorary alumnus at the 2023 Alumni Awards Dinner. The Alumni Awards highlight UW-Green Bay graduates and other individuals who have made special contributions to UW-Green Bay, their communities and professions. Through their dedication to community, their career and the university, they provide the perfect example of ‘how we RISE’ as UW-Green Bay Phoenix!
The 2023 Distinguished recipients were Neil Jacobstein’76 (Environmental Sciences), Laurie Lindborg Parsons ’80 (Environmental Sciences/Chemistry), Eric Lund ’89 (Psychology/Human Development,) siblings Rita Owino ’97 (Human Biology), Peres Owino ’99 (Social Change and Development/Theater), and David Owino ’03 (Social Work). Sarah Beckman ’08 (Business Administration) received the Outstanding Recent Alumni Award for 2023. Terry Fulwiler, retired CEO and Chairman of the Board of WS Packaging, who has worked tirelessly to advocate for UW-Green Bay and has extensive community involvement, received an Honorary Alumni Award. Kia Murray ’17 was the emcee for the event with Chancellor Mike Alexander providing University remarks.
The Alumni Awards Dinner capped off a week of celebration for our alumni award recipients. Several alumni were able to share their experiences with current UW-Green Bay students. Sarah Beckman was able to share her social work and non-profit experiences to two Social Work 370: Methods I classes. Peres Owino was on hand for a screening of her documentary “BOUND: Africans vs African-Americans” for students, faculty and the public in the Christie Theater. Peres and Professor Thomas Campbell entertained a Q&A session following the viewing of the documentary. Peres also shared stories of her writing, directing and acting experiences with Prof. Campbell’s Playwriting II class in Theater Hall. Laurie Lindborg Parsons spoke to Prof. Erin Berns-Herrboldt’s Hydrology class. She touched on some really cutting-edge work related to the course.
