Janet Planet returns to Weidner, Jazz Fest 48 is Saturday, January 27
UW-Green Bay presents Jazz Fest 48 starring Janet Planet on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018. Now in its 48th year, Jazz Fest is a celebration of all things jazz. One of the oldest of its kind in Wisconsin, Jazz Fest 48 encompasses a full day of student performances, clinics and master classes. The festival will culminate in student performances at 6 p.m. followed by the professional Green Bay Jazz Orchestra with special guest jazz vocalist, Janet Planet, at 7 p.m. When the Weidner Center first opened its doors, 25-years ago, Janet Planet played during the opening gala. The Weidner is delighted to welcome back this spirited and vivacious vocalist who has been self-produced and managed for the majority of her 35-year career. Described by New York Magazine as a “sultry vocalist with a vast repertoire of jazz, blues, and standards…with some Bob Dylan thrown in for good measure.” She is the winner of six Wisconsin Area Music Industry awards (WAMI) a member of the WAMI Hall of Fame, and has been recognized by the Grammy Foundation for her recording, “Janet Planet – Just Like a Woman – The Music of Bob Dylan.” In addition to being a performer, Planet is also a teacher, producer, voice-over talent and recording artist.
