In the news: Artstreet role puts student in spotlight

UW-Green Bay student Staci Thompson will have her work cut out for her this weekend, when the arts management major will be in charge of coordinating hundreds of volunteers at the annual Artstreet fine arts festival. Featured in Saturday’s (Aug. 18) Green Bay Press-Gazette, Thompson said that while the scale of the event is somewhat intimidating — more than 80,000 people attend Artstreet — coordinating its volunteers is an exciting challenge. “On the event days I’m told that we’ll be on by 5 a.m., and I’m expecting to work past midnight Friday, Saturday and Sunday,” said Thompson, an intern for Arts Events, Inc., which presents Artstreet. “I’ll make coffee,” she added. Prospective volunteers can call (920) 435-5220 or email intern@artseventsinc.com for more info or to sign up. Anyway, the P-G ran a nice story and it gives us another chance to remind people that ArtStreet, years ago, was basically the brainchild of former UWGB faculty member Dean O’Brien, since departed but never forgotten.
