Day, Wenger, Kimball, Michell present at environmental seminar in Spain
Profs. Emeritus Robert Wenger and Jack Day of Natural and Applied Sciences returned recently from a European trip. From June 25 to 28 they were at the University Rovira i Virgili, Campus Catalunya, in Tarragona, Spain, where they participated in the 16th Biennial Seminar on Water Resources and Environmental Management. In a special session on river basins, Day spoke about the Fox River/Green Bay watershed and Wenger gave a presentation on the Puyango-Tumbes watershed in Ecuador and Peru. Prof. Li Wei, a faculty member in the School of the Environment at Beijing Normal University and a visiting scholar at UW-Green Bay in 2000, was also a speaker in the river basin session—his talk was on China’s Yellow River. Associate Prof. Steven Kimball and lecturer Kris Michell from UW-Green Bay’s Education unit also presented, reporting on work under way to develop environmental education materials for elementary education students in Peru.

Wenger, Day visit Austria, Slovakia — Following the conference in Spain, Wenger and Day traveled to Vienna, Austria, and Bratislava, Slovakia. In Vienna they consulted with Nguyen Khac Tiep, an industrial development officer for the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, who heads the Industrial Energy Efficiency Unit there. While in Vienna they were guests of Mr. Nguyen’s family which includes daughter, Nguyen Thuy Anh, a 2004 UW-Green Bay graduate. In Bratislava they were hosted by Prof. Egon Kroc, a two-time visitor to UW-Green Bay as a guest of the International Visiting Scholars Program.
