Snapshots: Signs UW-Green Bay loves Phoenix basketball
Memories of UW-Green Bay’s exciting run to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 will last many years. Around campus, signs of congratulations and appreciation were still visible days after the remarkable 34-2, nationally ranked season came to an end.
On his way back from the team’s welcome-home reception (scroll to the end of this column for those photos), campus photographer Eric Miller took a few snapshots to record some of those sentiments.

Mid-day fireworks, a cheering crowd of several hundred, and the friendly confines of the Kress Events Center greeted the UW-Green Bay women’s basketball team Monday (March 28) upon their return from the Sweet 16 round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament.
The Phoenix flew home from Dallas the morning after their hard-fought 86-76 loss to Baylor, the nation’s No. 3 ranked team. Green Bay finished the season 34-2 and ranked No. 11 in the nation by ESPN/USA Today. It was the first Sweet 16 appearance ever for a UW-Green Bay team.
Taking turns addressing the crowd at the short welcome-home event were UW-Green Bay Chancellor Tom Harden, AD Ken Bothof, Coach Matt Bollant and Phoenix player Heather Golden, who was joined by fellow seniors Kayla Tetschlag and Celeste Hoewisch.
