Phoenix soccer player J.C. Banks a ‘developmental pick’ for MLS, Toronto

UW-Green Bay men’s star JC Banks was picked by Toronto of the MLS professional soccer league in Tuesday’s supplemental draft. While not the league’s main draft of college and amateur talent, Tuesday’s event was another chance for the pro franchises to claim promising players who have an outside chance of playing in the MLS after developing their skills on reserve teams or in developmental leagues.

“JC being selected by Toronto FC is an honor and a testament to his hard work and dedication,” said Green Bay men’s soccer head coach Tom Poitras. “He has some great options for starting his professional career and Toronto FC could be a great fit.”

Along with classmate David Prochazka, Banks is currently in Gothenburg, Sweden training with BK Haken, which is a top-level professional team in that nation.
