UW-Green Bay Music presents next ‘360° Thursdays’ lecture-concert event April 18
UW-Green Bay Music will present the next event in its 360° Thursdays concert and lecture series at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18 in Fort Howard Hall at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts.
The event will feature UW-Green Bay Associate Prof. John Salerno, discussing and then demonstrating the principles of form and thematic manipulation in music. Salerno will begin discussing the smallest musical unit and continue to build larger and larger forms by musical additions. He will then discuss and perform a set of piano variations, demonstrating how composers manipulate and vary their melodic, harmonic and rhythm ideas.
The 360° Thursdays event is the fifth installment of the innovative new series, a component of the University’s 360° of Learning brand. The 360° theme reflects UW-Green Bay’s unique approach that enables students to explore their education from a variety of angles, dimensions — and ultimately, possibilities. The 360° Thursdays series does this by helping students, faculty, staff and community members connect with music in more meaningful ways. Performances feature scintillating and provocative pre-concert discussions by a composer, performer or arranger. Attendees will consider a single aspect of the music through multiple perspectives.
The 360° Thursdays series features a diversity of performance styles designed to broaden attendees’ horizons and deepen their understanding of music. Each performance takes place at 6:30 p.m. in Fort Howard Hall. Concerts are free but donations are appreciated. The final 360° Thursdays event of the 2012-13 academic year will take place May 2, featuring premieres and miniatures with Assistant Prof. Michelle McQuade Dewhirst and fellow UW-Green Bay faculty members.
