Moment of silence
The estimated 2,200 attendees and participants in mid-year Commencement observed a moment of silence at the outset of Saturday afternoon’s ceremony.
UW-Green Bay Chancellor Tom Harden opened his welcoming remarks by noting the mood of shock and sadness, nationally, following the previous day’s violence in Connecticut. (At least 26 young people and adults were murdered in a school shooting spree.) The Chancellor asked those in the hall to reflect silently, as a gesture “in support of peace and those impacted by violence.”
