Historians have long debated the effect of mass consumer culture on Americans’ political engagement in the 1920s. How should we understand the decline of political participation in the jazz age? And what lessons does the 1920s hold for our own time?

Kimberley Reilly is an associate professor of Democracy & Justice Studies and History, and co-chair of the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program.

Philanthropy Grant Announcement

May 6, 2021 11:00 am – 12:00 pm

Students in the Philanthropy class of 2021 will hold a live Zoom event to announce the nonprofit recipient of their $10,000 grant provided by the Learning by Giving Foundation. Students will share insights and reflections on what went on behind the scenes to select this grantee. This year, students have focused on the challenges faced by “Opportunity Youth,” the term used to describe young people ages 18-25 who are not in school and not working. Students and representatives of the recipient organization will speak and attendees can ask questions during the Zoom session.

6:30 Concert Series: Miniatures

The 6:30 Concert Series annual Miniature concert is back. Miniatures: A Very Small Consortium features music that is only a few moments long. How much emotion can be squeezed into 2 minutes? Join us to find out. The concert is free to the public and will stream live on the UWGB Music YouTube channel.
