UWGB hosts Midwest Public Relations Conference
The UWGB Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) hosted 70-plus students from around the Midwest at the “PRactice: A Community ApPRroach to PR” regional conference recently. The event featured breakout sessions, a panel, and a case study competition that focused on the conference corporate sponsor, the Green Bay Packers. Students from Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina, and other UW schools attended. The PRSSA won the bid from among dozens of chapters around the nation that bid to be the host site. UWGB student Taylor Marie Thomson, Conference Committee Chair and PRSSA Chapter President, led the six-month planning process and served as the national representative for UWGB in all conference matters. The committee included the following PRSSA Executive Board and Chapter members: Sarah Alexander, Sandra Graybill, Karli Peterson, Emily Schuh, and Katie Vlachina. The Communication faculty, particularly the PRSSA’s faculty advisor, Danielle Bina, was extremely supportive throughout the planning process and conference itself. The UWGB PRSSA was established in January 2014 and has about 30 members with a seven-member executive board. They were awarded the Star Chapter Award in October 2015. The Chapter is dedicated to enhancing students’ pre-professional careers by gaining experience in communication and public relations outside of the classroom through casework, discussion, and conferences.
