Bi-lingual Education grad shines in new-teacher spotlight
Thursday (Sept. 1) was a big day for back-to-school, with freshman move-in here and the first day of K-12 classes in the Green Bay School District and elsewhere. The Green Bay Press-Gazette’s back-to-school coverage featured a great UW-Green Bay alumna success story, telling the tale of May 2011 grad Joanna Herrmann’s first day of teaching. Herrmann (magna cum laude) initially had planned to major in Education and minor in Spanish, but decided to double major after studying abroad in Spain. She’s now teaching bilingual kindergarten at Green Bay’s Fort Howard Elementary School, and spends about 90 percent of her day teaching in Spanish.
